The Role:

The Strategic Accounts Business Development Manager, Africa will be responsible for acquiring new large scale strategic partners with emphasis on Telecom sector and strategic solar distributors across Africa. Further, the individual will lead the expansion of the overall business footprint for Greenlight Planet’s products sold under its flagship brand called Sun King across Africa. 

Based on fast growing presence across the continent, we are looking for an experienced senior Business Development Leader who can build depth and enter new markets across the region with special focus on Pay-As-You-Go line of products.  Candidates for this position should have extensive experience with new business development, client management and channel building and/or marketing in emerging markets, preferably in the Telecom sector.  The ideal candidate has a strong record of consistently exceeding acquisition targets and a passion for being involved with big, game-changing enterprises.

The Strategic Accounts Business Development Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating long-term strategic growth plans for key markets in Africa with emphasis on building presence across Telecom as well as large-scale master distributors across the region. 

Key responsibilities for the role include developing distribution strategies that ensure deeper penetration of Greenlight Planet products as well as developing channels targeting relevant market segments. 

The ideal candidate:

  • Has a university degree and at least 6-10 years of sales and business development experience in West Africa working with product distribution catering to mass market consumers (Experience in Telecom sector preferred)
  • Has a strong record of acquiring new, strategic accounts and experience growing new business lines.
  • Is entrepreneurial and excited about the opportunity to creatively build effective, non-traditional sales channels in a nascent product category
  • Is fluent in English and French, both written and spoken
  • Is passionate about his/her work and driven by Greenlight’s social mission of bringing innovative, renewable energy and life-enhancing products to African markets
  • Is comfortable working independently and remotely in a lean environment
  • Likes getting hands on to figure out how to grow a high-potential business
  • Is a natural people-person, one that thrives off of building strong relationships both within the organization and externally
  • Is willing to spend 40-50% of his/her time on the road interacting with country-level distribution partners, resellers, customers and partners
